The 4th China-Singapore Case Study Forum was held at China's National Judges College in Beijing on Oct 14, where prominent judges and legal experts from both countries exchanged views on adjudication of cases related to intellectual property (IP) rights.

In an opening address, Tao Kaiyuan, vice-president of China's Supreme People's Court (SPC), said that the forum serves as a vital link and an innovative, inclusive and sustainable cooperation platform for judicial exchanges between China and Singapore within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Tao said she hoped the top courts of both countries would deepen judicial cooperation on IP rights, and stay committed to enhancing the professional capabilities of their IP adjudication teams, to make sure that global governance rules on IP rights will become more just and reasonable.

While delivering the closing remarks, Li Chenglin, head of the Political Department of the SPC, said that the success of the forum was a major outcome of bilateral pragmatic cooperation in judiciary that operates in an open, equal and inclusive manner. Li said he hoped that courts in both countries would enhance mutual understanding and trust through diverse forms of exchanges to improve their capacity in applying rules for judgments of IP cases and bring judicial exchanges and cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

Justices See Kee Oon and Kwek Mean Luck from Singapore also addressed the forum.
